The available infrastructure and accessibility gives the city a competitive advantage.
As Indonesia’s capital and one of the top cosmopolitan cities in the region, Jakarta is welcoming a number of international-scale events throughout 2022, such as the inaugural Jakarta Formula E 2022 last June or the upcoming 33rd International Publisher Congress scheduled from November 10 to 12.
The capital also hosted the Urban 20 (U20) Mayors’ Summit 2022, a gathering of global city leaders, as part of the Indonesian presidency of the G20 this year. Part of the Indonesian G20 presidency’s agenda was to discuss various post-pandemic urban challenges that global cities must face inline with the Indonesian G20 presidency theme, “Recover Together, Recover Stronger”.
One way for global cities to recover post-pandemic is through MICE activities. Meetings, exhibitions and incentive travel can effectively help move the economic wheels and revive the tourism industry after being disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. And the MICE sector could be a strong boost for the entire travel sector.
Jakarta is Indonesia’s largest business hub with an official population of 10.5 million inhabitants and foreign direct investments representing 12.3% of all FDI in the country.
The capital city has just officiated its new stadium, the Jakarta International Stadium, which is located in Sunter, North Jakarta. The stadium can also be used as a venue for various international and local events.
Head of Department of Tourism and Creative Economy of Jakarta, Mr. Andhika Permata said other than being a business and MICE city, Jakarta also offers many destinations for leisure.
“One of the leisure destinations is the Kepulauan Seribu (Thousand Islands) area which is suitable for tourists who want to take a brief break from all the hustle and bustle in Jakarta,” Permata said.
“Located only about 15 minutes from the Jakarta port, Kepulauan Seribu allows tourists to enjoy its natural beauty, which is comparable to other beach destinations, both locally and globally.”
The Department of Tourism and Creative Economy of Jakarta has come to ITB Asia 2022 with several MICE tourism businesses, including Wyndham Casablanca Jakarta, DoubleTree by Hilton Jakarta, St. Regis Jakarta, Hermitage Jakarta, Dwidaya Wisata Indonesia (Dwitour), and the Association of Indonesian Recreation Parks and Attractions (AIRA).
