Located at the shores of Lake Poroto and surrounded by mesmerising sights of nature, Japan’s first national museum featuring the indigenous Ainu people, Upopoy – the National Ainu Museum and Park – has just opened in Shiraoi, Hokkaido.
An hour and a half drive from Sapporo, it is closely located to Noboribetsu, arguably one of Japan’s most famous hot spring resorts. Some of the highlights of the National Ainu Museum and Park are the cultural exchange hall, where visitors can learn about the culture of Ainu, the Kotan, the traditional Ainu Village, and the Path to the Ainu Spirit.
